Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial title for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a torrid year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - caused him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks his maiden trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hard court since March of the previous year.

Victory also means Medvedev has won 21 victories at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my children together, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the first title I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, including in the German tournament previously this season.

His counter-punching approach and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had led some to question if his skill to play at the elite level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to come to the net and play assertively, reinforced by an better service.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, winning four of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his maiden ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to create a decider.

The opponent rescued 4 initial break points in a competitive third set before the champion won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, he secured the title with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to control a return after a lengthy match.
